7 Ways You Can Pray for Church Planters

ephesians 6.19

Our Church partners with the North American Mission Board (through the SBC Cooperative Program). Evangelistic church planting is the core focus of the North American Mission Board. But that is not all NAMB invests in and assists churches to accomplish. NAMB serves in partnership to assist associations and provide churches with resources and tools to serve your members and the community your members serve. Our support ministries are designed to be relevant, practical, useful and effective.

As a church, we are preparing for the annual Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. This means — not just collecting offerings to support mission work in North America — but also praying for those whom God has called. There are church planters right here in Indiana working to spread the Gospel of Jesus to people who have never heard. (You can pick up a list from the information tables in the Sanctuary or the Fellowship Hall.)

1 – Pray for a close walk with Jesus

To prioritize their relationship with Jesus.

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. (John 15:7 CSB)

2 – Pray for an identity grounded in Christ

To root their identity deeply in the gospel.

being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude. (Colossians 2:7 CSB)

3 – Pray for a strong marriage and family

To balance ministry and family.

Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and don’t be bitter toward them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they won’t become discouraged. (Colossians 3:18-21 CSB)

4 – Pray for wisdom

To make wise decisions that affect the growth of the plant.

Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2 CSB)

5 – Pray for favor in their community

That local leaders would help them connect with the community.

Then Daniel responded with tact and discretion to Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to execute the wise men of Babylon. (Daniel 2:14 CSB)

6 – Pray for faithfulness in their work

That the planter stays focused and faithful to the call God has given them.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:58 CSB)

7 – Pray for fruit for God’s kingdom

“Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me. (John 15:4-5 CSB)
